Welcome to the Bowen Technique
The Bowen Technique is a natural holistic therapy pioneered by Thomas Bowen (1916 – 1982) who devoted his life to developing and refining the Bowen Technique in Geelong, Australia. He started practising his technique in the1950s.
By the early 1970s, he was treating around 13,000 people a year. The technique was introduced to the UK during the 1990s.
What is the Bowen Technique?
The Bowen Technique is a gentle, non invasive hands-on therapy comprising a sequence of rolling moves over muscle, tendons and soft tissue over precise points on the body. The treatment can be administered directly on to bare skin or through light clothing depending on the client’s preference. There are frequent but essential pauses during the treatment when the therapist will leave the room to distance themselves from the client so that the body is allowed time to respond and repair. There is no manipulation, pressure or adjustment of hard tissue. The gentle moves stimulate energy flow allowing the body to realign itself holistically.
What does the Bowen Technique do?
The Bowen Technique treats the whole person not just the symptoms. The therapist is able to target specific areas of the body depending on the condition to be treated. Often clients report relief from seemingly unrelated long term conditions which they have learnt to live with and forgotten to mention to the therapist. It is a muscle release therapy which works psychologically as well as physiologically assisting the body to realign itself naturally. It also moves blocked energy therefore helping with emotional issues. Following treatment, people often report a feeling of complete relaxation, improved sleep patterns and increased energy levels as well as an overall feeling of general well being.
